What does a .app domain require?
Registration is $8.75 and renewal $14.93 a year.
Technical obligation
HTTPS only. The whole TLD is HSTS-preloaded in browsers, so a plain-HTTP site will not load — you need a TLS certificate from day one.
This does not affect whether you can buy the name.
What it costs
| Registration | $8.75 / year |
|---|---|
| Renewal | $14.93 / year first year discounted — renewal is the real cost |
| Transfer | $14.93 |
| Smallest possible first bill | $8.75 |
Standard price from Porkbun. Premium and reserved names return the same registry answer as an ordinary free one, so every quote here is a floor rather than a price.

Is a .app name free?
Availability comes from the registry itself over RDAP, with a WHOIS fallback where a registry publishes no RDAP service. A throttled or unreachable registry is reported as unconfirmed rather than available. It is the one wrong answer that costs somebody money.
